| Blackwater Reservoir, Kinlochleven, Scotland | |
With
such rugged scenery and the presence of a hovering helicopter, onlookers
witnessing the installation of Brackett Green's 0.5 tonne Bosker overhead
trash rake into Alcan's Kinlochleven hydro-electric generating plant could
have been forgiven for thinking something far more dramatic was happening.
Installed over two days, the trash-rake will act as a coarse screen for the 93 year old plant, and is capable of handling up to 50 tonnes of large debris such as boughs and weeds per day. Removal of such matter ensures the plant's turbines are protected from damage caused by large objects, and eliminates the possibility of one of Alcan's most important generating plants suffering loss of production due to sub-standard operation. Located upon the Blackwater Reservoir, Kinlochleven has the capacity to produce a continuous supply of power for up to 80, uninterrupted days, thus requiring coarse screening of the most efficient means. Operating completely automatically, Brackett Green trash-rakes clean bar screens from top to bottom and can easily handle both singular and multiple screens. Trash removed from the intake by the rake's gripper is dumped directly into a refuse container. Brackett Green, an international company specialising in screening solutions for water intakes and waste water treatment plants has now installed over 400 Bosker trash-rakes worldwide. Far-off locations include Tasmania and Shanghai, China. Closer to home, Alcan's Bosker rakes follow in the footsteps of an installation at Fort William (also for Alcan), and those at Pitlochry Dam, Tummel Bridge, Glenmorrison, Aigas and Kilmorack. |
